General information

West Newton Farm grows strawberries and is located in the west of England. The farm is 3 miles away from the town of North Petherton where there are several shops, pubs and a church. The towns of Taunton and Bridgwater are 5 miles away, where there are ample shopping and leisure facilities. London is easily reached by coach (2½ hours). The Quantock Hills are one mile away, and the coast is 15 miles away. Weekly shopping trips, and occasional barbecues will be arranged by the employer. There is a vehicle available for staff to use (responsible nominated drivers only. Driving documents required) to go on trips and outings.

Accommodation ‘The accommodation is in converted barns. Cooking,shower,toilet and washing facilities are communal. You will have a lockable room which sleeps a maximum of 2 people. The rooms contain twin beds or bunk beds. One room has a double bed suitable for a couple. There is bedroom furniture to keep your belongings in.
There is a £15 deposit for your room key which is refundable when you return your key at the end of your stay.’

‘Coronavirus -Under the current UK Government rules at 1 April 2021, on arrival at the farm, you are required to quarantine for 10 days along with others who have arrived within the same 24 hours.
This means for the first 10 days depending on the circumstances at the time, you might be housed temporarily in separate communal accommodation on the farm which has been allocated specifically for quarantine purpose, before moving to your permanent accommodation.
The separate quarantine accommodation is in 2 mobile homes and 2 twin bedded caravans which share the same kitchen,shower,toilet and washing facilities between them. These facilities are separate from the permanent accommodation communal facilities.
While quarantining you will be able to work.’
Communal facilities Kitchen facilities include gas cookers, gas hobs, microwaves, fridges, kettles, cooking pots, cutlery, table & chairs. There are two lounges with couches, television, a pool table and table tennis.
There are also 4 washing machines, drying room and barbecue. All employees must provide and cook their own food and keep the living areas clean and tidy.
There are 10 toilets, 8 hand basins and 16 showers, separate for male and female.
There is no extra charge for the use of the washing machine's.

Please be advised the above accommodation charges are subject to change from 1st April 2023 at the company discretion. The new rate will be no higher than the rates specified by government.

A £100 damage deposit will be charged and will be returned when you leave the farm providing the accommodation is left clean and undamaged. The deposits are upon the discretion of the employer.

Type of work -Ground Strawberry picking outdoors, and general outdoor field work associated with the crop. Packhouse work. Workers need to be dextrous and able to pick a minimum of 3 trays of eight punnets in an hour.
Please ensure you bring good footwear and weatherproof clothes suitable for cold and hot weather as most work is outdoors.
